Step 1: Prepare the Cake Batter
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and line two 8-inch cake pans.
In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
Stir in vanilla extract.
Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing until combined.
Step 2: Bake
Divide batter evenly between pans.
Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let cakes cool completely before frosting.
Step 3: Make Buttercream
Beat softened butter until creamy.
Gradually add powdered sugar.
Add cream and vanilla.
Beat until smooth and fluffy.
Step 4: Assemble the Dirty Cake
Level cake layers if needed.
Spread frosting between layers.
Apply a thin coat of frosting around the outside.
Use a scraper to lightly remove excess frosting, allowing cake layers to show through.
Step 5: Decorate
Top with berries, flowers, or ganache as desired.
